Cather enters his seventh season with the Cougars in 2025, after compiling a career-high 21 victories in 2024. In 2024, Clark started the season 9-0 and were in NEWMAC playoff contention into the final weekend of the season. Ryan Bonja earned All-NEWMAC First Team honors, while both Carter Doran and Maxwell Gitlin received All-NEWMAC Second Team honors.
In 2023, the Cougars won the "West" Division, a career-high nine conference games, and reached the NEWMAC Tournament, where they took on Babson and MIT in the first two games. Gitlin was named to the All-NEWMAC First Team, while Ryan Caulfield and Tyler Jones each earned nods on the All-NEWMAC Second Team.Â
Cather's squads in 2019 and 2022 each earned 16 victories, with the 2019 squad recording seven NEWMAC victories. Cather helped coach Cal Slepkow to the All-NEWMAC First Team in 2019 and in a shortened 2021 season, Derek Lefebvre earned a spot on the All-NEWMAC First Team.
Prior to arriving in Worcester, Cather was at Lesley University for five years. At Lesley University, Cather led the program to the NECC Conference Tournament all five years, won the NECC Conference Championship (2017) for the first time in school history, won a regional game against the 24th-ranked team in the country and was selected as NECC Coach of the Year twice (2017 & 2018). Their win totals have climbed every year from 10 to 14 to 19 to 22 to 27.
As a player, he was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 33rd round of the MLB Entry Draft. During the summer of 2010, Cather played professionally for the Worcester Tornadoes and former Red Sox great and current minor league coach Rich Gedman. He also won back-to-back New England Collegiate Baseball League Championships with the Vermont Mountaineers in the summers of 2007 and 2008 and played with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the historic Cape Cod Baseball League in 2009.Â
Cather played college baseball at UMaine where he was named to the America East Academic Honor Roll, won an America East Conference Tournament, and recorded an NCAA Regional Appearance. He was also honored with an America East All-Tournament Team nomination, was selected to the America East Second Team two times, and named team captain in his senior season.
