Mickey Cahoon returns for his 17th season on the Clark University sidelines in 2023.

Cahoon is the program's all-time leader in wins, notching a 171-179 overall record during his time with the Cougars to move ahead of Elyse Darefsky (143). In his 12 seasons, the Cougars have appeared in the postseason seven times (2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) and have won four Worcester City Tournament titles (2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015).

In 2015, the Red and White emerged as one of the region's elite squads. Clark opened the season winning 12 straight matches, finished third in the league standings while making the program's first-ever appearance in the NEWMAC title match. Along the way, the Cougars stunned Springfield in the league semifinal match, knocking off the powerhouse Pride for the first time in school history. For his efforts in leading the Scarlet and White to a 22-8 ledger after being picked eighth in the preseason poll, Cahoon was named the 2015 NEWMAC Coach of the Year.

Clark's sprint towards the top of the conference standings was in the works for a while. In each of the last two seasons he has led Clark to 4-1 starts, and in 2013 they knocked off regional power Eastern Connecticut State, 3-2 - the first time they have defeated the Warriors in back-to-back seasons since 1977-78 in a series that dates back to 1976.

Cahoon has branched out on the recruiting trail as well, identifying talented student-athletes from all corners of North America, including volleyball hotbeds like the Pacific Northwest, areas of Southern California and Puerto Rico.

After replenishing the roster to complement his style of play upon his arrival in 2007, the 2010 season saw Cahoon lead the Scarlet and White to their first winning season (13-12) in a decade and an appearance in the NEWMAC Tournament.

Cahoon arrived at Clark following a highly-successful tenure at the high school level. He spent three seasons as head coach at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, Mass., where he led NDA to a 50-17 overall record and a pair of consecutive trips to the Division II South Sectional Tournament, including a championship appearance in 2006.

He also assisted 10-time state champion head coach Tom Turco at Barnstable High School, helping lead the Red Raiders to the 2003 MIAA Division I Championship.

In addition to his volleyball coaching responsibilities, Cahoon is also the head men’s tennis coach at Clark. In the 2010 season, he developed the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in Diego Angel, who became just the second Clark men’s tennis player to ever earn a postseason all-conference selection. In 2012, Cahoon was named NEWMAC Coach of the Year, Angel earned league player of the year as the Cougars advanced to their first-ever NEWMAC championship.

He spent six years directing the tennis team at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School (1998-2004) en route to being named the  Cape Cod Times Boy’s Tennis Coach of the Year in 2003.

Cahoon has also served as a resident tennis professional at the Weston Racquet Club.

A 2001 graduate of Bridgewater State College, Cahoon also has a master’s degree in Counseling from Boston University.

He resides in South Boston with his wife, Jennifer and their son Jett.
