Worcester, Mass. - The host Clark University
volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on
Saturday, first to Rhode Island College, 3-0, then to Westfield
State, 3-1, at the Kneller Athletic Center.
The Cougars have now lost three straight and play the final game of
their four-game homestand on Tuesday against NEWMAC foe Coast
Guard.
In the first match of the day, game scores were 25-20, 25-15 and
25-18 in favor of the Anchormen. The Cougars were paced by five
kills from Amira Tranchell (Falmouth, Mass.) and
eight more from Kristin McGinty (Vail, Colo.).
McGinty added four total blocks to her numbers, while Tranchell hit
a team-best .300.
Emily Visone (West Hempstead, N.Y.) registered a
team-high 17 digs and freshman Emily Sullivan
(Nashua, N.H.) handed out 11 assists.
Rhode Island College, meanwhile, were led by Jessica Ho's 35
assists and the 13 kills and six digs from Breanna Boyer.
Clark took game one 25-21, in their second match of the day.
Westfield, however, rebounded to take the next three games by
scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-15. The Owls potent offensive attack
produced 60 kills, 51 of which were assisted by Kerin DeGiromalo.
Both Alex Shaw and Rachel Ryan added 17 kills for WSC, who improved
to 10-8 after knocking off Rhode Island College earlier in the
day.
Emily Sullivan, who played all four games in the loss to the Owls,
registered a career-high 42 assists to go along with 12 digs.
Nicole Sullivan (Marshfield, Mass.) was the
hitting star for the Cougars, collecting 13 kills on .500
hitting.
