Worcester, Mass. - Senior Chelsea Proulx (Franklin, N.H.) continued her outstanding play of
late, registering the game-winning goal in the 71st minute to lift
host Clark to a dramatic 2-1 win over visiting Springfield on
Tuesday evening on Granger Field in NEWMAC field hockey action.
The win over the Pride snaps a nine-game losing streak to their
conference rival.
Things turned around on Tuesday evening for the Cougars when
freshman Madeleine Lutts (Salem, Mass.) gave Clark
a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal in the 31st minute. The Cougars
took a 1-0 lead into halftime, marking the first time they had
scored a goal against Springfield since a 4-1 loss to the Pride
back in 2005.
The visitors evened the score in the 56th minute when Morgan Rein
(Mystic, Conn.) set up Alexa Carlson (New Milford, Conn.) for her
fourth goal of the season.
The match seemed to be headed for overtime when Lauren Blake (Oakland, Maine) set up Proulx on a penalty corner
as she tallied her third goal in as many games.
Clark netminder Kathryn Dawsey (Saratoga Springs,
N.Y.) turned back 12 shots, while Pride goalkeeper Anna Calano
(Columbia, Conn.) made six stops.
The win for the Cougars (5-3, 2-0 NEWMAC) equals their win total
from a season ago and denied Springfield (5-6, 1-2 NEWMAC) coach
Melissa Rogers her 100th career victory.
Clark returns to action on Saturday when they visit Babson on
Saturday at 12 noon.
