South Hadley, Mass. - The visiting Clark Cougars
knocked off New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference
(NEWMAC) foe Mount Holyoke College 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-22) this
afternoon at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. It was the Cougars
sixth straight win over the Lyons and their first in league play
this season.
Leading the way for Clark was sophomore outside hitter
Amira Tranchell (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth), who
tallied a team-best 13 kills. Senior defensive specialist
Emily Visone (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead)
collected a squad high 16 digs, while sophomore middle blocker
Kristin McGinty (Vail, Colo./Vail Christian) added
ten kills and a pair of blocks. Sophomore setter Nichole Lopez (Alameda, Calif./Alameda) directed the Cougars
offensive attack with 23 assists, and first year defensive
specialist Amanda Harris (San Diego, Calif./Canyon
Crest Academy) helped the defensive effort with ten digs.
Mount Holyoke was paced by junior outside hitter Rosa Marruffo
(Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley), who amassed team highs of seven kills
and two service aces to go with 13 digs. Sophomore middle hitter
Tyler Protano-Goodwin (Shutesbury, Mass./Amherst Regional) recorded
six kills and a block, while first year outside hitter Morgan
Cooley (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth South) registered three kills and
a squad best 19 digs. Rounding things out for the Lyons was junior
setter Kateryna Kuc (New Haven, Conn./Hopkins), who finished with
19 assists.
Both squads are slated to resume their league schedules on Tuesday
at 7:00 p.m. Mount Holyoke (2-3, 0-2 NEWMAC) will wrap up a three
match homestand versus WPI, while Clark (2-4, 1-1 NEWMAC) will play
its fourth of five straight road contests at Smith College.
