Worcester, Mass. - Behind 12 kills and six digs
from sophomore Kristianna Isben, Eastern Connecticut State rallied
for a 3-1 win over host Clark University in the Cougars'
season-opening match at the Kneller Athletic Center on Tuesday
evening.
Clark took game one 25-20, but from then on it was all Warriors.
The visitors captured game two, 25-16 and then game three 25-15.
Game four finished in almost the same fashion as games two and
three with ECSU ending the match with a score of 25-18.
Amira
Tranchell (Falmouth, Mass.) paced the Cougar attack
with nine kills and three digs, while freshman ToniMarie
Illuzi (Manorville, N.Y.) finished with four kills and
seven digs in her first collegiate match. Sophomore Nichole
Lopez (Alameda, Calif.) handed out 22 assists in the
four games to go along with five digs for Clark.
In addition to Isben, the Warriors got solid contributions from
Erin Moriarty (10 kills, four blocks) and Samantha Slonski (11
kills, 16 digs, five service aces).
ECSU improves to 3-0 on the season, while the Cougars will look for
their first win of the season in the annual Worcester City
Volleyball Tournament on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
