Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University posted a pair of dominating victories in two-non league matches on Saturday afternoon at the Kneller Athletic Center.

The Cougars opened the day with a 3-0 win over Worcester-area rival Anna Maria and then knocked off regional power UMass-Dartmouth 3-0 later in the day to improve to 8-9 overall.

In their opening match with the AMCATS, Maritza Fair (The Bronx, N.Y.) and freshman Katie Byrnes (Southington, Conn.) combined for 17 kills in the 25-9, 25-14, 25-10 win. Freshman Katie Freaney (Old Lyme, Conn.) handed out a career-high 15 assists and sophomore ToniMarie Illuzzi (Manorville, N.Y.) led the team with eight digs.

The game two upset of the Corsairs, who entered the match with an 18-4 record, saw the same offensive balance that helped Clark secure the win earlier in the day. Fair (team-high nine kills), Parker Edmonds (Fort Worth, Texas) (eight kills) and Byrnes (seven kills) powered the Clark offensive attack, while freshman Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) handed out 28 assists.

Defensively, Fair added 17 digs and Kortney Kelley (Barnstable, Mass.) had a match-high 22 of her own.

Game scores were 25-12, 25-20 and 25-13.

Clark, now at 8-9 overall, returns to NEWMAC play on Tuesday when they host perennial conference power Coast Guard, a team they defeated last season. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
