Bears Exact Revenge With 3-0 Win

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. – Powered by a monster double-double from Karen Matic (Oswego, Ill.) and 12 kills from Nicole Johnson (New Braunfels, Texas), visiting Coast Guard knocked off host Clark University, 3-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) volleyball action on Tuesday evening.

The win for the Bears extends their winning streak to 11 matches and avenges a 3-2 loss to the Cougars last season. USCGA improves their record to 22-4 overall with a 7-1 mark in conference play, while Clark sees its three-match win streak come to an end and now sits at 8-10 overall and 3-4 in NEWMAC action.

Things were pretty even for much of the first game, until, with the score tied at 15-15, Coast Guard ran off nine straight points to take a 24-15 lead before settling for a 25-16 win.

The Bears then controlled much of the next two games, taking them both by identical 25-16 scores.

Matic finished with a match-high 34 assists and 18 digs, while Jessica Anderson (Schoolcraft, Mich.), who recently became the school's all-time leader in digs, added 19 more.

Clark was paced by Amira Tranchell (Falmouth, Mass.) who had five kills and two blocks and Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.), who chipped in with 20 assists.

The Cougars are back in action on Friday when they visit Brooklyn College for a 6 p.m. matchup, while the Bears visit Trinity College on Thursday.
