scored the only goal of the game in the 66th minute as Coast Guard
stunned Clark, beating the Cougars 1-0, to snap a streak of 16
straight losses in New England Women's and Men's
Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
Coast Guard (5-4, 1-2) had won just one of its last 40 NEWMAC
matches dating back to 2005, before pulling off the win this
afternoon to celebrate Homecoming Weekend.
Shelton took a throw in from freshman Jill Kelly with her back
to the goal she turned an blasted a shot into the upper left corner
of the goal from about 25 yards out for the only goal of the
game.
Coast Guard beat Clark for the first time since 2002 as Mary
Mills made three saves to record her third shutout of the
season.
Clark, which had knocked off No. 19 Wheaton 1-0 last week,
outshot the Bears 9-7.
Joanna Clark had three saves for the Cougars,
who drop to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
