Alexander (Providence, R.I.) added 14 points and a
game-high nine rebounds leading Clark to a 67-50 win over Coast
Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference
(NEWMAC) game.
Clark (12-9, 3-5) outscored the Bears 11-1 over the first five
minutes of the second half turning a 30-22 halftime lead into a
41-23 lead with 15:49 left in the game.
Coast Guard (7-12, 4-5) got as close as 11 at 46-35 following a
3-pointer by freshman Ed Gailor with 9:51 left. Clark led 50-38
with 8:41 left and then scored 11 straight to take its largest lead
of the game 61-38 with 5:09 left.
The Cougars used an 8-0 first half run to open its largest lead of
the half 19-8 with 10:32 left.
Clark shot 42.9 percent from the floor (21-49) and six of 17 from
behind the arc (35.3 percent) while Coast Guard shot 40.5 percent
(17-42), just 28 percent (7-25) in the first half, but 58.8 percent
in the second half (10-17). The Cougars outrebounded Coast Guard
35-23.
Freshman Greg Marshall led Coast Guard with 13 points while senior
Eric Hudson had 11 points and a team-high six rebounds in the
loss.
Clark returns to the hardwood on Wednesday with a key road matchup
at MIT beginning at 8:00 p.m.
