Box Score North Dartmouth, Mass. - Visiting Clark broke a
4-4 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh inning and held
off the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team, 8-7,
in a non-conference game at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex
Wednesday.
Senior right fielder Philip DiMarco (Bellingham,
Mass.) broke the tie with a sacrifice fly in the seventh, and
junior catcher Kevin Kopec (Katonah, N.Y.) singled
home two more runs to give the Cougars a 7-4 lead.
The Corsair fell behind early, but rallied on a pair of home runs
by junior catcher Matt Ryan. He hit a solo homer in the second
inning, and tied the score with a three-run blast in the sixth.
Clark got a run in the eighth on an RBI single by senior center
fielder Stephen DeMartino (East Haven, Conn.).
The Corsairs scored twice in their half of the eighth on an RBI
single by senior left fielder Tom LaDore and a sacrifice fly by
sophomore third baseman John Granahan.
Junior first baseman Anthony Fiorita brought UMD back to within a
run when he drove home a run with an infield out in the bottom of
the ninth.
The Corsairs had the tying run in scoring position when sophomore
Michael Lamothe (Bellingham, Mass.) relieved
starter Brendan Solecki (Portsmouth, R.I.) and
snagged Ryan's hard ground ball up the middle, throwing him out at
first base to end the game.
Solecki earned the win and improved to 4-3, Lamothe earned his
first save, and UMass Dartmouth reliever Niall Mitchell took the
loss and fell to 0-1.
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 13-8 with the defeat, while Clark
improved to 13-12 with the victory.
The Corsairs will return to action when they visit UMass Boston
Saturday. The Cougars will visit MIT Saturday.
