Box Score Providence, R.I. - Powered by a 2-for-3,
five-RBI performance from Mitch DeLorenzo (Berlin,
Conn.), Clark gathered a 13-8, non-conference win over host Rhode
Island College at Anchorman Field on Friday afternoon.
RIC (8-4) sophomore reliever Kyle Dumont took the loss (0-1), while
Clark sophomore starter Michael Lamothe
(Bellingham, Mass.) earned the win (1-0).
The visitors pounded RIC pitching for 11 hits, while the hosts made
three errors. RIC collected eight knocks and the Cougars made four
defensive miscues. The Anchormen used seven pitchers, while Clark
used four.
In the top of the first, DeLorenzo struck the first blow with a
one-out, three-run homer over the left field fence.
The lead was short-lived as the Anchormen came back with a
three-spot in the home half of the frame. A Jared Rossi RBI-single,
a Tim Schabowski RBI-ground out and a sacrifice fly by junior first
baseman Joe Correia tied the game, 3-3.
Clark responded with four runs in the second, capped by senior
right fielder Phillip DeMarco's (Bellingham,
Mass.) RBI double to left field.
The Anchormen battled back with one run in the third and tied the
game, 7-7, in the fourth, paced by Rossi's two-run double and an
RBI double by Gary Levesque.
Sophomore Nicholas Kellogg (Florence, Mass.)
tagged Dumont for a two-out homer to left field in the fifth to
give the Cougars a lead they would never relinquish.
Clark sealed the win with a four-run seventh, highlighted by a
DeMarco two-run triple and a solo blast by Shawn Lamothe (Bellingham, Mass.).
The Cougars will play their third and fourth games in three days
when they take on Brandeis in a non-league doubleheader slated to
begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
