Box Score Dudley, Mass. -- Junior midfielder
Meghan Lennon (Charlton, Mass.) scored two
second-half goals to lead the Clark University field hockey team to
a 2-1 victory over Nichols College in a non-conference game at
Vendetti Field Tuesday evening.
The host Bison lost their first game of the year and move to 3-1
on the season, while the Cougars win their second straight to move
to 4-1.
Nichols held a 6-2 shot advantage in the opening frame and
wasted little time getting on the board as junior Lauren Correia
converted a pass from sophomore Barbara Roy just past the two
minute mark.
The lead stood until 10 minutes into the second half when Lennon
finished off a penalty corner, firing in the ball off the stick
stop of Erin Murphy (Boxborough, Mass.) and insertion of
Mel Melkonian (Worcester, Mass.).
With the game tied and shots dead even in the second stanza,
Murphy connected with Lennon with just 46 seconds left in the game
to give the Cougars the victory.
Nichols first year netminder Amanda Broughton made three saves,
while her counterpart, junior Kate McGrath
(Wilmington, Mass.) made eight stops.
Nichols continues non-conference play Thursday in a 7 p.m. game
at Westfield State. Clark commences NEWMAC play Sunday in a 1 p.m.
game at MIT.
