Cougars Collect Key NEWMAC Win

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. – Powered by a season-high 18 kills and 20 digs from senior Maritza Fair (The Bronx, N.Y.) and a career-best 14 kills from freshman Katie Byrnes (Old Lyme, Conn.), Clark snapped a five match losing streak with a resounding 3-1 win over Babson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's volleyball action on Tuesday evening.

With the win the Cougars improve to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in league play, while the Beavers slip to 7-8 and 1-2 in conference action.

The win for Clark over Babson is their first win over their NEWMAC foe since a 3-2 win over the Beavers in September of 2006.

Babson rolled to a 25-16 win in game one before the Cougars rallied to take game two, 27-25. Clark then took each of the final two games by 25-22 scores for their first victory since winning the Worcester City Tournament back on September 12.

The Beavers were paced by Nina Milovanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) who finished with a match-high 23 kills and Meg Flaherty (Hollis, N.H.) who totaled 16 kills. Sophomore setter Kathleen Lynch (Quincy, Mass.) added a match-high 45 assists.

Clark, meanwhile, got standout performances from freshman setter Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) who handed out 43 helpers and defensive specialist Kortney Kelley (Barnstable, Mass.) and her 19 digs.

Babson returns to the court next Tuesday with a NEWMAC showdown against MIT while Clark will take part in a tri-match at Westfield State on Saturday along with Rhode Island College.
