Byrnes (Old Lyme, Conn.), Clark snapped a five match
losing streak with a resounding 3-1 win over Babson College in New
England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's
volleyball action on Tuesday evening.
With the win the Cougars improve to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in
league play, while the Beavers slip to 7-8 and 1-2 in conference
action.
The win for Clark over Babson is their first win over their
NEWMAC foe since a 3-2 win over the Beavers in September of
2006.
Babson rolled to a 25-16 win in game one before the Cougars
rallied to take game two, 27-25. Clark then took each of the final
two games by 25-22 scores for their first victory since winning the
Worcester City Tournament back on September 12.
The Beavers were paced by Nina Milovanovic (Belgrade, Serbia)
who finished with a match-high 23 kills and Meg Flaherty (Hollis,
N.H.) who totaled 16 kills. Sophomore setter Kathleen Lynch
(Quincy, Mass.) added a match-high 45 assists.
Clark, meanwhile, got standout performances from freshman setter
Rachel
Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) who handed out 43
helpers and defensive specialist Kortney
Kelley (Barnstable, Mass.) and her 19 digs.
Babson returns to the court next Tuesday with a NEWMAC showdown
against MIT while Clark will take part in a tri-match at Westfield
State on Saturday along with Rhode Island College.
