Box Score Springfield, Mass. – Junior forwards Mel Melkonian (Worcester, Mass.) and Madeleine Lutts (Salem, Mass.) each tallied three goals to lead Clark to their sixth straight victory - a 6-1 victory over Western New England on Thursday evening in a non-conference game at Golden Bear Stadium.
For Melkonian, the hat trick was her fourth in a row and the 13th of her career, while Lutts' three goal performance was the first of her career.
Clark jumped out to an early lead at 4:17 on an unassisted goal by Lutts to put the Cougars up 1-0.
Melkonian then notched two goals in under a minute to stretch the Clark lead to 3-0 heading into the half.
Melkonian opened the half by scoring her third of the night, then set up Lutts on her second goal which gave the Cougars a 5-0 edge at 47:15. Melkonian leads the nation with 17 goals on the year.
Western New England got on the board at 65:14 as junior defender Laura Madiao (Paxton, Mass.) converted on her second goal of the season.
Lutts provided an insurance tally at 66:32 to close out the scoring.
Clark senior goalkeeper Kate McGrath (Wilmington, Mass.) earned the win in net as she made two saves, while WNE junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Hall (Pawtucket, R.I.) made seven saves in the contest.
The Golden Bears return to action on Saturday (Sept. 24) to host Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Gordon at 6:00 p.m. Clark will face Anna Maria on Tuesday (Sept. 27) at 7:00 p.m.
