Box Score New London, Conn.- Junior Kelsey DePorto had 12 kills and four blocks leading Coast Guard, ranked eighth in New England, to its 23rd straight home win, a 3-0 victory over Clark in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
The Bears, who won by game scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-13, improve to 11-8 overall and 3-2 in the NEWMAC while Clark drops to 6-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Coast Guard jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the early going before Clark scored seven of the next nine to cut the deficit to 11-10. The Bears responded with nine straight behind the serving of freshman Emily Gilland to take a 20-10 lead. Clark would score five straight to make it 20-15 before the Bears scored five of the final six for the 25-16 first set victory.
In the second set, the Bears used a 9-5 run turning an 11-9 lead into a 20-14 advantage and won 25-17.
Coast Guard led 15-9 in the third set and took control by scoring nine of the next ten en route to a 25-13 win.
Freshman Maggie Hine led the way with five aces and 31 assists. Senior Catherine Walker had nine kills while junior Samantha Marmolejo led the Bears with 13 digs while senior Keriann Mason added five kills and ten digs.
Sophomore Mel Conde (Union City, Calif.) led Clark with six kills while freshman Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albuquerque, N.M.) added five kills.
Coast Guard is back in action on Thursday night when they host Roger Williams, while Clark jumps right back into the fray with a home contest against Connecticut College.
