Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University scored a pair of second half goals and the Cougars went on to collect a 2-0 win over Emerson College in non-league women's soccer action on Wednesday evening.
The Scarlet and White extend their winning streak to six straight and improve to 9-7-1, while the Lions are now 8-5-3. During their longest winning streak since 2005, Clark has outscored its opponents 16-2.
After a scoreless first half, the Cougars finally cracked the scoreboard when Hanna Wilson (Irvington, N.Y.) took a feed from Emma Lynch (Pawtucket, R.I.) and banged home her second goal of the season at 47:36.
A little less than ten minutes later Clark looked like it would get on the board again when Jenna Zarou (Garden City, N.Y.) fired one of her patented free kicks toward the goal but her shot banged off the crossbar and was cleared off the line.
The Cougars added an insurance goal in the 85th minute when Liz Cumberbatch (Austin, Texas) took a long ball and dribbled on to Emerson goalkeeper Allie Altman (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and sent a shot to the far left corner that whizzed past for her team-leading seventh goal.
Clark held a 20-8 edge in shots, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.) needed to just make two saves to secure her fifth shutout of the season. Altman meanwhile, turned back six shots in defeat for the Lions.
In the last two years, the Cougars are 10-3-2 in October, including a 6-1 ledger this season.
Clark will wrap up its regular season on Saturday when it hosts Wheaton College, the nation's 16th-ranked team. Emerson, meanwhile, visits Emmanuel College on Sunday.
