Northampton, Mass.- Clark University finished in tenth place on Saturday morning at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's cross country championships hosted by Smith College.

Erika Roth (Saco, Maine) crossed the finish line first for the Cougars, wrapping up the 5K course in 20:07, good for 30th place. Zoe Greenberg (Arlington, Mass.) was the next Clark runner to finish, turning in a 56th place performance with a time of 21:41.

That duo was followed by sophomore Abby Grieco (Hardyston, N.J.) in 60th place in a time of 21:59 and Kayla Reeves (Shirley, Mass.) and Marlena Springstubb (Oceanside, N.Y.) in 63rd and 64th places respectively, in times of 22:29 and 22:30.

MIT placed the first eight runners en route to their sixth consecutive championship. 

The Engineers finished with 15 team points, well ahead of second placed Wellesley, who finished with 74 points, and third placed Smith, who totaled 124 points. 

Wheaton (Mass.) finished third with 131 points, followed by Coast Guard (148 points), WPI (155 points), Mount Holyoke (188 points), Springfield (201 points), Babson (212 points), and Clark (Mass.) 269 points). 

The Engineers, currently ranked No. 1 in the country by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, were led by Brooke Johnson (Shoreham, N.Y.), who finished the 5K course in 18:30, just ahead of teammate Elaine McVay (San Ramon, Calif.), who finished second in 18:30. Johnson earned the NEWMAC Runner of the Year honor for the feat. 

Sarah Quinn earned the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year award for her third place finish in 18:37, followed by teammates Alexandra Taylor (Harbor Springs, Mich.) who finished fourth in 18:53, and Kaitlin Allen (Bedford, N.H.) in fifth place in 18:55.

Clark will return to action on Saturday at the New England ECAC Championships.
