Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Visiting MIT pushed their winning streak to four matches with an impressive 3-0 win over Clark University in NEWMAC women's volleyball action on Tuesday evening.
The Engineers (8-1, 1-0 NEWMAC) won by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and finally 26-24. Clark, meanwhile, has dropped back-to-back matches for the first time this season and now sit at 4-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.
After winning the first set 25-16, MIT raced out to an 11-3 lead in the second set and then saw that advantage balloon to 20-8 before a Clark timeout. The Engineers, eventually put the game away with a 25-14 decision.
Clark came out on fire in the third set, taking leads of 5-0 and 9-3 before MIT rallied to cut the edge to 14-10. Things stayed close but the Engineers slowly chipped away at the Cougar lead forcing another timeout after trimming the score to 18-16. Clark was able to hold MIT off until the visitors tied the match at 24-24. Two consecutive points ended it all and gave the Engineers their 30th straight win over the Cougars.
Tatiana Berger (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) paced MIT with seven kills, while Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) ended with 15 assists.
Clark, meanwhile, was led by Mel Conde (Union City, Calif.) who totaled seven kills of her own and Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) who recorded a game-high 20 assists.
The Cougars will look to return to the win column on Saturday with a home match against Mount Holyoke. MIT will host a tri-match the same day against Smith College and Simmons College.
