Worcester, Mass. – Emily Kuo (Chicago, Ill.) scored a pair of first half goals and visiting MIT held off a furious second half rally from host Clark University to post a 2-1 win in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Engineers improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in league play, extending their unbeaten streak against the Cougars to seven straight.

Kuo, who entered the match with a league-leading six goals, put MIT ahead 1-0 in the eighth minute when she converted a penalty kick after an Engineer forward was taken down inside the box.

Things stayed that way until some excellent passing by MIT set up Kuo for her second of the day. Andrea Park (Irvine, Calif.) found Michaelann Rodriguez (Florence, Ala.) who touched a pass to a streaking Kuo at 34:25.

Late in the second half, Clark finally got on the board as Janelle Pasternack (North Brookfield, Mass.) slipped a ball through the Engineer defense to Hana Chamoun (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) that she sent past Meghan Wright (Devon, Pa.) at 79:31.

That goal seemed to change the momentum of the contest as the Cougars pressed the Engineer defense with near misses on an diving stop by Wright on a Lucia Pantuosco (Somers, Conn.) attempt and on a corner kick off of the foot of Jenna Zarou (Garden City, N.Y.) that somehow made it through the box untouched. In the end, however, Clark could not get the equalizer it needed.

MIT held an 18-9 edge on shots, including a 7-1 advantage in the decisive first half. Wright needed to make just three stops to earn the win, while Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.) collected five stops for the Cougars, who have now dropped three straight to slip to 2-5-1.

Clark will be back in action Tuesday when they play host to Western Connecticut State, while MIT entertains Lesley on the same day.
