Cougars Split Two At Home Tri-Match

Worcester, Mass. – All three of the teams – host Clark University, Rhode Island College and Westfield State all went 1-1 during a non-league volleyball tri-match on Saturday afternoon at the Kneller Athletic Center.

Game One: Rhode Island College 3, Clark University 2
The visiting Anchorwomen rallied from a 2-1 set deficit to collect a thrilling 3-2 win over host Clark in the day's first match. Game scores were 25-22, 26-28, 25-17, 25-21 and 15-11.

Jessica Ho handed out 50 assists for Rhode Island College, while Breanna Boyer finished with 25 kills on .367 hitting. Amanda Cabral had an excellent all-around match, totaling seven kills, seven digs and four blocks.

Clark meanwhile was paced by freshman Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albuquerque, N.M.), who registered 22 kills and 12 digs. Mel Conde (Union City, Calif.) had a monster match in the loss, posting 21 kills and 26 digs. Kaitlyn Stuck (Bourne, Mass.) collected 37 digs and Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) had her third career match with 50 or more assists, finishing with a career-best 55.

Game Two: Westfield State 3, Rhode Island College 1
Westfield State won back-to-back matches for the first time all season, posting a 3-1 win over Rhode Island College (6-11). The Owls won by scores of 20-25, 25-23, 25-21 and 26-24. Julia Warner had a match high 13 kills to go along with 16 digs, while Shannon Shea added a double-double of her own, collecting 22 kills and 12 digs.

Boyer was the only Rhode Island College player to reach double figures in kills with 11. Jasmyn Starr chipped in with 22 digs, while Ho continued her excellent afternoon with 35 assists – giving her 85 on the afternoon.

Game Three: Clark University 3, Westfield State 0
Clark (6-8) controlled this match from the outset, rolling to a 3-0 win over Westfield State (3-12). Game scores were 25-8, 25-18 and 25-19. Alyssa Danilow had a team-best eight kills for the Owls, while Carolyn Cote handed out 12 assists.

For the Cougars, meanwhile, both Conde and Glass-Smythe posted 12 kills, while Katie Freaney (Old Lyme, Conn.) with 11, Stuck with 17 Glass-Smythe with 16 and Spera with 13 all had double figure dig totals.
