Cougars Shutout At Springfield, 2-0

Box Score

Springfield, Mass. – Springfield College scored a pair of goals less than seven minutes apart and the host Pride posted its fifth straight win over Clark University with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday evening in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action.

Springfield climbs to 8-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in NEWMAC play with the win, while the Cougars drop to 4-9 (1-4, NEWMAC).

Breena Salwocki (Newington, Conn.) got Springfield on the board in the 28th minute when Nicole Fowler (Maynard, Mass.) dribbled the ball down the left wing towards the center of the field. She passed the ball across the middle and just outside the box to Salwocki who took a couple of touches and slotted it past Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.).

Sara Dalton (Schenectady, N.Y.) notched an insurance goal in the 34th minute, with help from Brianna Messier (Hopedale, Mass.). The Pride went the length of the field, and Messier found Dalton on the edge of the box. A nice touch by Dalton turned her past the defender, allowing her to tap it in for an easy finish with her right foot to give the Pride a 2-0 advantage before halftime.

The Pride played an excellent defensive game, outshooting Clark, 10-3 and getting just one shot on goal – off the foot of Afra Danai (Amherst, Mass.) in the 43rd minute.

Sarah Myers (Bridgewater, Mass.) made one save in goal for Springfield to earn the win, while Paolini finished with four saves.

Clark is back in action again on Saturday, hosting Babson in a crucial NEWMAC matchup slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
