Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University snapped a season long four game losing streak with an impressive 3-0 win over Wheaton College in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars got a pair of goals from freshman Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) and another from classmate Isabelle Zoeckler (Madison, Conn.) to improve to 8-7 overall and pick up their first league win of the year.
Wheaton, meanwhile, which was coming off of an 11 day layoff, has now dropped three straight to slip to 4-10, including an 0-5 mark in conference action.
Mackey, who had been held scoreless during the Cougars' four game slide, broke out with her team-leading 13th goal with help from Maria Manning (Manchester, N.H.) off of a penalty corner less than 15 minutes into the contest.
Things stayed at 1-0 until early in the second half when Talia Fish (Philadelphia, Pa.) found Mackey again and she deposited her second of the contest at 40:34.
Zoeckler then added an unassisted insurance goal at 67:41, giving the Cougars a 3-0 win.
Clark controlled the contest, holding an 11-1 edge in shots and a 14-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) needed to make just one save to record her fifth shutout of the season.
Ellie Massengill (Amherst, Mass.) was strong in the cage for the Lyons, making eight stops in defeat.
Both teams are back in action Tuesday with home league contests. Wheaton hosts Babson, while the Cougars entertain Springfield.
