Springfield Sneaks Past Clark, 1-0

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Springfield College snapped a three-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on Tuesday evening.

The Pride extended its winning streak to six straight over the Cougars dating back to the 2010 season and includes a 5-1 victory in the conference tournament quarterfinals a season ago.

Springfield improves to 4-10 overall but bumps its league ledger to 2-4, while Clark drops to 8-8 and 1-5 in NEWMAC contests.

The visitors got all the scoring they would need early in the first half when Olivia Cabral (Sayville, N.Y.) set up Libby Hart (Chatham, Mass.) for her second goal of the season off of a penalty corner at 14:03.

Clark meanwhile had trouble mustering any offense, getting just three shots on the evening.

The Cougar defense stood tall, however as netminder Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) made eight saves and the backline helped to only allow one goal despite facing 14 penalty corners.

Juliana Barrosso (Bayport, N.Y.) needed to make just three saves to collect not only her second career victory but her second career shutout.

Both teams face key league games on Saturday. Springfield plays host to Smith at 10:30, while the Cougars visit nationally-ranked Wellesley at 12:00 p.m.
