Box Score Norton, Mass. – Host Wheaton College extended its shutout streak to nearly 490 minutes with its fifth consecutive shutout - a 2-0 blanking of Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium.
The loss for the Cougars is their fifth straight as they dip to 4-12 overall and 1-7 in conference play and have now been eliminated from postseason consideration.
Scoring started for the hosts in the 39th minute when junior Gabriella Verde (Miami, Fla.) sniped home a free kick into the upper right corner of the net to give the Lyons a 1-0 advantage.
Rachelle Rodman (Fair Oaks, Calif.) added an insurance goal in the 56th minute heading home a corner kick off the foot of Lauren Corigliano (Roselle Park, N.J.).
Lyons' goalkeeper Taylor Wilson (Bellingham, Mass.) made three saves, while Cougars' backstop Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.) stopped a game-high five shots in the loss.
Wheaton recorded a 19-12 differential in shots, 13 coming in the first stanza, and a slim 3-2 margin in corners.
The Lyons have not allowed a goal since the 52nd minute of their 3-1 loss to MIT on Tuesday, October 8. Since then, the Blue and White have outscored their opponents 15-0 during its 488:15 scoreless streak.
Wheaton (12-5-1, 7-1-0 NEWMAC) hosts Babson College in a NEWMAC contest on Tuesday, October 29 at 3:00 p.m. Clark (4-12, 1-7 NEWMAC) travels to WPI on Tuesday for a conference clash at 7:00 p.m.
