Danbury, Conn. – Clark University split a tri-match hosted by Western Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon at the Colonials' Feldman Arena.

The Cougars scored a huge regional win over UMass-Boston, besting the Beacons by a 3-1 score before dropping the twinbill nightcap to WCSU, 3-0.

Clark now sits at 12-14 overall in advance of two huge New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contests slated for the upcoming week. The Cougars will host crosstown rival WPI on Tuesday before heading to Emerson on Saturday in the regular season finale.

Clark 3, UMass-Boston 1 (25-23, 24-26, 25-23, 25-23)

In the second match of the day, Clark won by three identical 25-23 scores, while dropping the second set by an equally slim margin, 26-24, for a 3-1 victory over UMass Boston.

Sophomore Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albuquerque, N.M.) led Clark with 11 kills, followed by junior Savonnah Rowe (New York, N.Y.) with ten.  Senior Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) led with 23 assists, and freshman Mia Cattaneo (Santa Barbara, Calif.) had 19 digs.

For UMass Boston, Bolland led with 15 kills, freshman Lacee Kilgore (Grand Junction, CO) had 24 assists, and freshman Kimie Taketa (Torrance, CA) had 16 digs.

Western Connecticut State 3, Clark 0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-20)

In the day's final match, Western bested Clark 3-0 to send each team home with one win and one loss on the day.

Freshman Karissa Smith led the Colonial attack with 11 kills. Jenny Hogan and freshman Danielle Kaminsky shared the setting duties for Western to finish with 18 and 15 assists, respectively. 

For Clark, meanwhile, Glass-Smythe and Courtney Pharr (Seattle, Wash.) led the offensive attack with six kills apiece.

Savannah Sanford (San Anselmo, Calif.) added five kills and nine digs, while Spera had 18 assists.
