Seniors Got Out In Style With 2-1 Win

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. – Clark University got a pair of goals from Janelle Pasternack (North Brookfield, Mass.) and the host Cougars wrapped up the 2013 campaign with a 2-1 win over Emerson College in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

The game marked Clark's annual breast cancer awareness game and also served as senior day for the ten members of the Class of 2014.

Pasternack put the Cougars on the board almost immediately, banging home a loose ball out in front of the goal in the 15th minute for an early 1-0 Clark advantage.

It stayed that way until late in the first half when Anne Carroll (Lincoln, R.I.) set up Tayllar Righini (Salem, N.H.) for her sixth goal of the season at 34:04.

A little less than 30 minutes later and as the second half wound down, Emily Braun (Irvington, N.Y.) sent a ball into the box from the right side and it nearly made it through untouched until Pasternack headed it home for the decisive goal and her second multi-goal game of the season.

Clark held a sizable 23-8 edge in shots and a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Melanie Escobar (Torrington, Conn.) was fantastic in goal for the Lions, turning back ten shots to keep Emerson in the contest, while Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.) needed to only make three saves to earn the win.

The Cougars wrap up their season at 5-13 overall, while the Lions end their first season as a member of the NEWMAC at 7-11-1.
