Box Score Boston, Mass. – Needing a win to secure their first postseason appearance for the first time since 2010, visiting Clark University rolled to an impressive 3-0 win over host Emerson College in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) volleyball action on Saturday evening.
The 25-16, 25-19, 25-17 win by the Cougars gives them the seventh and final postseason berth in the upcoming league tournament, which begins on Tuesday.
Clark improves to 14-14 overall and 4-6 in conference action after winning four of their last five matches to secure their spot.
The 14 wins in a single season are the most in the Mickey Cahoon era which dates back to 2007 and are the most since Karen Farrell led the Cougars to 22 wins back in 2001.
Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albuquerque, N.M.) notched her tenth double-double of the season with match-highs of 11 kills and 14 digs.
Freshman Courtney Pharr (Seattle, Wash.) was also extremely impressive, hammering down ten kills on .526 hitting to go along with four service aces.
Savonnah Rowe (New York, N.Y.) added eight kills of her own, while Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) handed out 28 assists.
Julianna Augustine and Alyssa Thorne each registered six kills to lead the Lion attack. Emerson's first season in the NEWMAC comes to a close with a 15-12 overall record and a 3-7 ledger in league play.
Clark will travel to face second-seeded Wellesley College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals.
