Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Coast Guard banged out 25 hits and got a pair of strong pitching performances by its two starters and swept two New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball contests from Clark University on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears won the opener 4-2 and then took control early in the nightcap, collecting a 13-4 victory to improve to 12-8 overall and 5-3 in league play. Clark, meanwhile, falls to 5-15 overall and 1-8 in conference action.

In game one, Riley Beecher (Elgin, Texas) tossed 6.2 innings, scattering six hits and striking out three in picking up his second win of the season.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI triple by Mike Massaro (Sewell, N.J.), the Bears found themselves down 2-1 after Clark pushed across two runs in the bottom of the third. Michael Eglow (Delmar, N.Y.) doubled to left, scoring Jack Kenney (Saco, Maine) and then came around to score on a Brian Sullivan (Auburn, Mass.) base hit through the right side.

Coast Guard responded immediately, plating three runs in the top of the fourth, highlighted by a Tim Betts (Fort Myers, Fla.) two-run double.

Derek Dubois (Haverhill, Mass.) pitched well in the loss for Clark, going the distance, yielding four runs (three earned) while striking out eight.

Eglow led the charge offensively, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

Tyler Viera (Dumfries, Va.) came in to relieve Beecher in the seventh and collected his league-leading fifth save.

Game two saw, the Bears bang out 17 hits, scoring seven runs in the top of the second, chasing Cougar starter Miles Sheehan (Madison, Conn.) after 1.2 innings.

The big blow in Coast Guard's seven-run uprising were a two-run triple by Tyler Babkiewich (Golden, Colo.) and a two-run double by Cameron Carroll (Reno, Nev.).

Single runs came across in the fifth and sixth for the Bears and then they scored three in the seventh on a double play groundout, a run scoring triple by Ed Sella (Silver Spring, Md.) and a base hit down the left field line by Lukas Laplante (Leeds, Mass.) that scored Mark Behne (Clifton, Va.).

Clark finally broke through in the sixth when Kevin Mawe (Dedham, Mass.) reached on an error and then came around on an RBI hit by Andrew Doolittle (Hebron, Conn.).

The Cougars got three more runs in the eighth on a pair of bases loaded walks and a Matt Asdornvuttikrai (Winchester, Mass.) RBI single.

Derek Petty (Parker, Colo.) was strong on the hill for Coast Guard, going seven innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out five.

Luke Crocker (Strafford, Vt.) was the Cougars best pitcher in game two, tossing 3.1 innings and striking out five.

Clark will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Springfield, while the Bears won't play until next Friday when they visit Wheaton.
