Clark Swept By Altoona, 4-3 And 5-2

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lake Myrtle, Fla. – Led by a pair of strong performances from Jordan Swope, Penn State-Altoona swept a pair of games from Clark University on Tuesday morning at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.

The Nittany Lions won the first game in dramatic fashion 4-3 and then edged out the Cougars 5-2 in the nightcap.

Swope was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in opener and then had a pair of RBI in the four-run second in the final game.

The Cougars actually took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game one, when Mitch DeLorenzo (Berlin, Conn.) singled home Michael Eglow (Delmar, N.Y.).

Altoona wasted little time taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame on run-scoring singles by Swope and John Szmed.

Clark returned the favor in the top of the fourth when Brian Sullivan (Auburn, Mass.) drove home Jack Kenney (Saco, Maine), who doubled to left center. Sullivan came around to score and give the Cougars a 3-2 edge on a Zachary Richall (Tyngsboro, Mass.) single up the middle.

Swope started the Nittany Lion comeback in the sixth with a leadoff single. After reaching second on a passed ball, he advanced to third on a flyout to left and scored on a fielding error, tying the score at 3-3.

Altoona got the walkoff win in the seventh, when they collected a pair of hits off of Sullivan, who came in from left to relieve Andrew LeBlanc (Farmington, Conn.). Louie Hile's groundball to second brought home Ken Terpeack with the game-winning run.

Game two saw the Nittany Lions score the first five runs of the game, including four in the second. Altoona racked up five of their seven hits in the frame, including run-scoring base hits by Terpeck and Cody Swope.

Down 5-0, the Cougars mounted a brief rally, getting two runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Kenney and Andrew Doolittle (Hebron, Conn.).

The Cougars (2-3) will return to action on Wednesday when they take on Union College in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
