Box Score Wenham, Mass. – Visiting Clark University wrapped up its 2013 season with a thrilling four-run ninth to complete a 5-3 win over host Gordon College in non-league baseball action on Friday afternoon.
The loss drops the Scots below .500 to 16-17 overall while the victory puts the Cougars' final record at 12-22.
Gordon took an early lead as Anon Rowland (Port Republic, N.J.) scored on a wild pitch midway through the bottom half of the first frame for the 1-0 lead.
After John Kanas (East Moriches, N.Y.) retired three straight from the mound in the top of the second, the Scots' Stephen Crawford (Haddon Heights, N.J.) doubled to open the bottom of the inning, later came home off an RBI triple from Geoff Brown (East Moriches, N.Y.), and Brown crossed home himself on a wild pitch to extend Gordon's lead to 3-0.
That score held until the top of the seventh when the Cougars' Zachary Richall (Tyngsboro, Mass.) singled to plate James Conway (Newburyport, Mass.) from second to make it a two-run ballgame.
The Clark bats came to life in the top of the ninth, as Daniel Lima (Manchester, Conn.) singled home a pair to knot the game at 3-3.
Andrew Doolittle (Hebron, Conn.) then ripped the go-ahead single to score Lima and Nicholas O'Brien (Potomac, Md.) and give the Cougars all they would need for the win.
Making the final appearance of his career, Andrew LeBlanc (Farmington, Conn.) tossed the first six innings, striking out six to increase his school record total to 207.
Derek Dubois (Haverhill, Mass.) spun the final two innings, allowing just one hit to earn his fourth win of the season.
Michael Eglow (Delmar, N.Y.) went 2-for-5 at the plate for Clark, while Lima and Conway each had two hits for the Cougars as well.
