Cambridge, Mass. – Visiting Clark University had its season-best four match winning streak stopped by New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) front runner MIT on Saturday afternoon by an 8-1 score at the duPont Tennis Courts.
The nation's 20th ranked team continued its undefeated streak and now sits at 13-0 for the season and 3-0 in NEWMAC play, while the Cougars dipped to 7-6 and 2-1 in conference action.
Senior Matthew Skalak (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and junior Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va.) paired up to defeat Diego Angel (Lima, Peru) and Antoine Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), 8-2, at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 2, sophomore Eugene Oh (Alparetta, Ga.) and freshman Kevin Wang (Havertown, Pa.) won a tiebreaker, 6-0, against Daniel Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Zack Goldstein (Columbus, Ohio) to win the match with a score of 9-8.
At No. 3, senior Larry Pang (Torrance, Calif.) and Curtis Wu (Yorba Linda, Calif.) defeated Dan Hall (Sutton, Mass.) and Harris Rollinger (Lexington, Mass.) 8-2.
The Engineers continued their roll, winning five of the six singles matches starting at No. 1 where Zhang topped Angel, 6-2, 6-1 and then Wang won against Stein with a score of 6-2, 6-4. At No. 3, Skalak defeated Martin, 6-3, 6-2.
Clark's lone victory came at No. 6, Clark where Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) defeated Robbie Shaw (San Diego, Calif.) with a straight set score of 6-0, 6-2.
The Cougars have little time to think about the loss as they will play four matches in the next week beginning with Monday's 4:00 p.m. home contest against Rhode Island College.
