Cougars Drop Season Opener, 3-1

Biddeford, Maine – Host University of New England had four different players record double-digit kills and the Nor'Easters collected a 3-1 win over visiting Clark University in non-league volleyball action on Friday evening  at Harold Alfond Arena.

Game scores were 25-23, 23-25, 27-25 and 25-18.

Leah Janelle finished with a match-high 15 kills and ten digs, while teammate Angie Brunette added 14 kills and seven blocks to lead the UNE attack.

Clark meanwhile was paced by freshman Savannah Sanford (San Anselmo, Calif.), who totaled 13 kills and 17 digs – both team highs.

Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) added 25 assists for the Cougars, who also got nine kills and 12 digs from Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albuquerque, N.M.).

The Cougars will return to action on Tuesday when they host Eastern Connecticut State at 7:00 p.m.
