Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Freshman Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) smacked home the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute – her fifth in the last two games - lifting host Clark University to a 2-1 win over Nichols College in non-league field hockey action on Tuesday evening.
The Cougars improve to 2-1 on the season while the Bison (0-4) remain in search of their first win of the season.
Lindsay Rappazzo (Mashpee, Mass.) put Nichols on the board first when she took a feed from Avery Orszulak (Springfield, Mass.) a little less than 23 minutes into the game.
Clark responded before the half came to a close as Maria Manning (Manchester, N.H.) evened the score when she converted a penalty stroke at 29:18.
Things remained tied until late in the contest when Mackey banged home a rolling pass from Kiah Murphy (Westport, Mass.) with less than ten minutes left to play for the eventual gamewinner.
Both Nichols goalkeeper Molly Melanson (Simsbury, Conn.) and the Cougars' Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) each made nine saves between the pipes for their respective teams.
Clark is off until next Tuesday when they visit UMass-Dartmouth, while the Bison are next in action on Thursday when they play host to MIT.
