Clark Blanked By Corsairs, 1-0

Box Score

North Dartmouth, Mass. – Host Clark University was shutout for just fourth time in the last three seasons as host UMass-Dartmouth collected a 1-0 win over the Cougars in non-league field hockey action on Tuesday evening.

The Corsairs recorded the only goal of the game 29:54 into the first half when Jill Levrault (Somerset, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal off a defensive deflection.

UMass Dartmouth had two penalty stroke opportunities, one in the first half and one in the second, but failed to capitalize on either attempt.

Despite the outcome, Clark head coach Linda Wage was encouraged by her team's performance against a team that has been to the NCAA Tournament in two of the last three years.

"I am pleased with what I saw from our squad tonight," said Wage. "It is very encouraging if we can get this kind of effort."

The Corsairs' goalkeeper, Lauren O'Brien made four saves to record her second straight shutout.

Clark's netminder, Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) recorded nine saves, making one of the nine on a penalty stroke.

The Corsairs improved to 3-2 with the victory, while the Cougars dropped to 2-2 with the defeat.

UMass-Dartmouth will return to action when they host Westfield State on Saturday. Clark will host Elms on Thursday.
