Cougars Drop Two At Home Tri-Match

Worcester, Mass. – Coast Guard Academy went 2-0, posting a pair of 3-1 wins against host Clark University and Keene State in a tri-match volleyball showcase on Saturday afternoon at the Kneller Gymnasium.

Game No. 1: Coast Guard 3, Clark University 1 (18-25, 25-10, 28-26, 25-5)
The visiting Bears had three players reach double figure kills en route to the 3-1 win. Kelsey DePorto led the way with 15, while Susan West added 14 and Rebekah Muller chipped in with 11 to pace an offense that hit .277 on the afternoon.

After dropping the first set, the Bears rebounded with a 25-10 win but found themselves in a fight in the third. Ahead 24-22, Clark ran off three of the next four points to even the score at 25-25. DePorto put the set away with a kill off an assist from Maggie Hine.

Hine finished with 29 assists and 13 digs, while Samantha Marmolejo racked up 29 digs.

Anne Read (Arundel, Maine) led the Clark offense with eight kills, while Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Savannah Sanford (Anselmo, Calif.) totaled six kills apiece.

Game No. 2: Coast Guard 3, Keene State 1 (25-22, 25-22, 14-25, 25-21)
Again DePorto was the difference, recording 17 kills and four block assists as the Bears improved to 8-3 on the season.

Hine handed out 24 assists for and Marmolejo tacked on 17 digs.

Keene State was paced by Madeline Nossif and Angela Silveri as those two combined to for 29 kills and Kaitlin Boyer provided 24 digs.

Game No. 3: Keene State 3, Clark 1 (17-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-16)
Three different Owls had three players notch double figure kills, led by 11 from Madeline Nossif and Keene state improved to 8-6.

The Owls hit .353 in the match, including .483 and .412 in the third and fourth sets, respectively.

Shannon Glass-Smythe led Clark with 12 kills and digs, while Anne Read helped out 10 kills on .409 hitting.

Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) dished out 22 assists, while Savannah Sanford and Mia Cattaneo (Santa Barbara, Calif.) each recorded 12 digs.
