Cougars Can't Connect In 63-36 Loss At MIT

Box Score

Cambridge, Mass. – Host MIT raced out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back as the Engineers breezed to a decisive 63-36 win over Clark University in the New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday evening at Rockwell Cage.

The win for MIT extends their winning streak to six straight while improving to 9-2 overall. The Cougars meanwhile, sees their consecutive wins streak snapped at four and now sit at 9-3.

Justin Pedley led all scorers with 20 points, while teammate Matt Redfield chipped in with his fifth double-double of the season (12 points, 12 rebounds).

Clark's offense never got untracked, finishing with their fewest points of the season while also shooting a season-low 19 percent from the field and connecting on just four three-pointers.

Conor Dow (Needham, Mass.) and Nicholas DaPrato (Marshfield, Mass.) both finished with 11 points each to lead the offense for the Cougars.

After the early start by MIT, Clark never got closer than 12 the rest of the way and the Engineer advantage ballooned to as many as 30 late in the second half at 54-24 on a pair of Pedley free throws.

The Engineers controlled the interior, finishing with a 16-6 edge in points in the paint, a 44-31 edge on the glass and an 8-2 edge in blocked shots.

Clark will return to the hardwood on Saturday with a NEWMAC contest against Wheaton College. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
