Clark Gets Split At Home Tri-Match

Worcester, Mass. – Salve Regina continued its hot play as of late sweeping through a volleyball tri-match hosted by Clark University on Saturday afternoon at the Kneller Athletic Center. The Seahawks opened the morning by knocking off the host Cougars 3-0 and then wrapped up their stay in Worcester with a 3-1 win over Worcester State. Clark earned a split after falling to Salve in the opener they came back and defeated the Lancers, 3-2 in thrilling fashion.

Salve Regina 3, Clark University 0: 25-23, 25-21, 26-24

The Seahawks (13-7) got a match high 18 kills from Jennifer Duggan en route to the 3-0 win. In addition to Duggan's performance, Salve Regina saw Taylor Violet hand out 32 assists and Dianna Tauro collect 17 digs.

After winning the first set 25-23, the Seahawks took the second 25-21 before being pushed to the brink in the third set. They eventually wrapped up the set and the match with a 26-24 win.

Clark (7-12) was led by Marina Ramos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico), who totaled 11 kills and 16 digs, while Mia Cattaneo (Santa Barbara, Calif.) recorded a career-high 27 digs. Tori Whitney (Sunderland, Mass.) added a double-double with 27 assists and 14 digs.

Salve Regina 3, Worcester State 1: 25-20, 25-16, 19-25, 25-18

Salve Regina won its seventh match in a row with a 3-1 win over Worcester State. The Seahawks won the first two before the Lancers took the third. In the end, SRU proved to be too strong, posting a 25-18 win in the match-clinching fourth set.

Worcester State was led by Alyssa Jasper who racked up 15 kills and nine digs and Amanda Lewis who dished out 34 assists to go with her seven digs. Jamika Townsend meanwhile, tallied seven kills and 15 digs for the Lancers (17-4).

Clark University 3, Worcester State 2: 25-15, 25-18, 16-25, 23-25, 16-14

After breezing to a 2-0 lead, Clark University needed to rally and hold on to defeat crosstown rival Worcester State 3-2.

The win for the Cougars snapped a six-match losing streak, while the Lancers dropped their second in a row after a 12-match win streak.

Alyssa Jasper led the way for the visitors, registering a match-high 21 kills and 15 digs for Worcester State, while Jennifer Cabral added seven kills and 18 digs.

Amanda Lewis chipped in with 37 assists – most of which went to Jasper – to go along with eight digs.

Ramos added a double-double for Clark, finishing with 13 kills and 11 digs and Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albuquerque, N.M.) posted one of her own with 11 kills and 13 digs.

Whitney had another excellent performance, handing out 35 assists and totaling 16 digs.
