Cramer Clutch As Cougars Top Wheaton In Double OT

Box Score

Norton, Mass.Sarah Cramer (Wynnewood, Pa.) scored the game-winning goal in the 87 th minute to lift Clark University to a thrilling 4-3 double overtime win over Wheaton College in  New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey on Saturday afternoon.

Cramer's third goal of the season came at 86:21 when Julia Baud (Utrecht, Netherlands) gathered a rebound near the left post and fed Cramer, who was wide-open near the right post for the game-winner to give the visitors their first conference victory of the season.

Wheaton senior goalkeeper Madison Wolters (Marstons Mills, Mass.) made a fantastic stop on Kiah Murphy's (Westport, Mass.) initial shot prior to Cramer netting the game-clinching marker.

The Cougars also received goals from sophomore Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.), Kaylin Mulrooney (Somerset, Mass.) and Haley Mahan (Bedford, N.H.).

Mackey put the Cougars ahead in the seventh minute when she notched her second goal of the year at 6:38 with help from Murphy.

That lead doubled when Mulrooney scored off a rebound at 27:46.

Trailing 2-0 late in the first half, McNicholas and McCann executed a perfect give-and-go passing maneuver around a Clark University defender off of a penalty corner before McCann fired her third goal of the season past junior goalkeeper Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) to cut the deficit in half before the break at 29:23.

Mahan pushed the Cougars ahead by a two-goal differential again in the 51st minute of the matchup as she lofted a shot over Wolters' head from the top of the circle for her first goal of the season.

Wheaton charged back with a pair of goals just 1:03 apart from each other to force the eventual overtime session between the two clubs. Buckley made it a 3-2 game at the 64:56 as she redirected a hard hit shot by Peters from the right wing for her fourth goal of the year.

Peters followed with her fifth tally of the season at 65:59 when she gathered a loose ball in the circle, pushed the ball ahead about five yards and sniped a shot by Tinsman to level the score.

Both squads tied in shots in the first overtime session, before Cramer one-timed her game-winning goal into the cage off Baud's feed for the win.

Wolters made five stops in the loss (8-6), while Tinsman collected seven saves to improve her record to 6-5 overall this year.

Wheaton held a 25-16 advantage in shots and a 14-10 differential in corners.

Clark (7-7, 1-4 NEWMAC) visits Springfield College next Tuesday for a crucial league matchup at 7:00 p.m.
