Strong Second Half Sends Pride Past Clark, 4-1

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. - Olivia Cabral (Sayville, N.Y.) found the back of the cage two times and host Springfield won a crucial New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey contest over Clark University, 4-1, on Tuesday evening on Stagg Field.

With the victory, the Pride snaps its three-game losing streak to improve to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in league games. Clark, meanwhile, sees a serious blow dealt to its postseason hopes as they now sit at 7-8 overall and 1-5 in conference action.

Cabral converted a penalty shot at 23:17 to put Springfield on top 1-0. A little more than four minutes into the second half Linnea Quist (New Preston, Conn.) put her mark on the game off a pass from Maggie Kennedy (Clay, N.Y.).

After the Quist goal, Cabral hammered home two consecutive goals for the Pride, one unassisted, the second off of a nifty lead pass from Tori Stollmer (Hopwell Junction, N.Y.).

With 15:17 left to play in the game, Clark got on the board after Kiah Murphy (Westport, Mass.) found Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) for her third goal of the year.

The Cougars got seven saves from Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) before she gave way to Olivia Landry (Vestal, N.Y.), who made a pair of saves in the final 26:39.

Clark will look to return to the win column on Saturday when they entertain the nation's No. 8 team in Wellesley College. Game time is slated for 12:00 p.m.
