Box Score Boston, Mass. – Charlotte Mays (Melrose, Mass.) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season but host Emerson College scored a pair of unanswered goals to collect a 2-1 win over Clark University on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action.
The win for the Lions bumps their final ledger to 6-11 overall and 3-7 in conference contests, while the Cougars end their first season under head coach Brienne Smith at 2-16.
Mays put the Scarlet and White on top in the match's 20th minute when she chipped a shot over Allie Altman's head at 19:44.
Emerson wasted little time getting the equalizer when Alyssa Gianonne banged home a header into the bottom right corner of the goal off of an excellent cross from Mollie Coyne in the 24th minute.
The Lions went ahead for good when Coyne played the role of playmaker again, this time setting up Alexandra Levin for another header at 38:34.
Clark actually outshot the hosts, 12-9 and held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.) made three saves for Clark, while her counterpart Altman turned aside five shots to earn the victory.
