Season Ends With 5-1 Loss At Smith

Box Score

Northampton, Mass. – Olivia Cotton (Northampton, Mass.) playing in her hometown, scored Clark University's lone goal as the Cougars wrapped up their 2014 season with a 5-1 loss to Smith College in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on Saturday afternoon.

The Scarlet and White finish the season at 7-10 overall and 1-7 in league contests. For the Pioneers, meanwhile, their season also comes to a close one game ahead of the Cougars in the conference standings (2-6) and a 5-13 overall ledger.

Smith took a 2-0 lead into halftime but Clark responded with Cotton's fourth marker of the year with help from Anjelica Gonzalez (Merrimack, N.H.) less than two minutes into the second stanza, slicing the Cougar deficit in half.

The Pioneers, however, scored a pair of goal in a five minute span a little less than ten minutes later to put the game away. Kristen Estes then added an insurance marker with less than 30 seconds to play to produce the final margin.

Smith held a 21-10 advantage in shots taken, while the Clark goalkeeping tandem of Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) and Olivia Landry (Vestal, N.Y.) combined to make four saves.
