Babson Park, Mass. – Melissa Orzechowski (Windsor, Conn.) won three individual events and Karina Urquhart (Sanford, Maine) won two of her own and the Clark University women's swimming and diving team posted a 156-71 win over Babson College in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon at Morse Pool.
Orzechowski has showed no signs of a sophomore slump in 2014-15 thus far as she touched the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle, 1,000-yard freestyle and the 200-yard IM to help the Cougars to victory.
Urquhart, meanwhile, took top honors in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.11, just ahead of teammate Kelsey Clary (Cambridge, Mass.) who was second (27.35). She was also first in the 100-yard freestyle, cruising to the wall in 58.00.
Other individual event victors included Liz Barker (Augusta, Maine), who was first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.41), Natalie Omary (New York, N.Y.) in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.05) and Lydia Berry (Kennebunk, Maine), who bested teammates Jenna Harrison-Peters (Bethesda, Md.) and Hannah Reich (Danvers, Mass.).
In addition to the strong individual performances, Clark's 200-yard medley relay team of Barker, Omary, Ariel Vaughan (West Haven, Conn.) and Emily Drewniany (Middletown, Conn.) finished first in a time of 2:05.40, well ahead of the Cougars' second relay squad of Clary, Berry, Harrison-Peters and Lara Prosterman (San Francisco, Calif.) who were second (2:09.35).
Clark will return to the pool on Saturday when they face another NEWMAC team in Wellesley.
