Cougars Best Bridgewater State, 162-118

Bridgewater, Mass. – Sophomore Karina Urquhart (Sanford, Maine) won a trio of events to lead a quintet of individual event winners as the Clark University women's swimming and diving team splashed past regional rival Bridgewater State, 162-118, on Saturday afternoon at Moriarty Pool.

In addition to Urquart, both Liz Barker (Augusta, Maine) and Melissa Orzechowski (Windsor, Conn.) each won two events, while Natalie Omary (New York, N.Y.) and Niki Lew (Auburndale, Mass.) each won single events to aid in the Cougar effort.

Urquhart took home top honors in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:03.77 – less than three seconds ahead of Bridgewater State's Abbie Grant (106.00).

She continued her winning ways when she led a 1-2-3 finish for the Cougars, touching the wall in 2:24.51, ahead of teammates Ariel Vaughan (West Haven, Conn.) and Emily Drewniany (Middletown, Conn.).

Her final victory came in the 400-yard IM where she outdistanced (5:00.82) teammate Lydia Berry (Kennebunk, Maine) by a little less than 12 seconds (5:12.47).

Orzechowski, meanwhile, won the 1,650-yard freestyle, cruising to a time of 18:30.77, nearly two minutes ahead of her nearest competitor.

She followed that victory up with triumph over second-place Berry in the 500-yard freestyle, turning in a time of 5:22.90.

Barker continued her strong senior campaign, sweeping the two backstroke events. First, she blazed her way to a first-place finish in the 100-yard back (1:05.85) and then later, she took home the 200-yard crown (2:27.20).

Omary was locked in a battle with the Bears' Sarah Blitcliffe in the 100-yard breaststroke, but in the end she was able to edge her out by less than a second (1:13.89).

Lew was the next Cougar to win an event when she touched the wall first in the 200-yard, freestyle, edging out Grant with a time of 2:09.33.

Clark will return to the pool in early December when they take part in WPI's Gompei Invitational.
