Wellesley, Mass. – For the third consecutive meet, both Melissa Orzechowski (Windsor, Conn.) and Karina Urquhart (Sanford, Maine) won individual events but this time it was New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Wellesley College who came out on top, as the Blue posted a 225-63 win over Clark University in women's swimming action on Saturday afternoon at Chandler Pool.
Urquhart was first to touch the wall in the 1,000-yard freestyle, registering a time of 11:24.46 – more than 14 seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Grace Bachman of Wellesley.
In addition to her first-place finish, Urquhart also collected a second-place effort in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 5:35.05.
Orzechowski, meanwhile, blazed her way to the fourth fastest time in program history in the 200-yard backstroke when she took top honors with a time of 2:15.12.
The Cougars will return to the water on Tuesday when they take part in the Ted Mullin Hour of Power, a nationwide swimming fundraiser for cancer research.
