Orlando, Fla. – Clark University opened up its spring break trip in fine fashion, topping King's College 7-2 in non-league men's tennis action on Sunday morning at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.
With the win the Cougars' improve to 3-1 on the season while the Monarchs drop their first dual match of the spring season and also sit at 3-1.
Clark came out and won two of the three doubles matches to kickstart the match. Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Antoine Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) took care of Steve Brand and Jacob Rohring, 8-3, at No. 1.
After Tony Bevevino and Chris DiMinto edged past Spencer Pinkney (Falmouth, Mass.) and Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador) in a 9-8 (7-5) tiebreaker at No. 2, Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) and Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) moved past Tyler Ryman and Ryan Hegarty 8-3 at No. 3.
Things started out well for the Monarchs as Brand knocked off Stein in straight sets at No. 1 (6-4, 6-2), but it was all Clark the rest of the way.
Martin rolled past Bevevino 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, while Pinkney had little trouble with Rohring at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0 and Pinoargote collected a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Dimino.
Goodstein breezed past Ryman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Joel Simonson (Waterford, Conn.) wrapped up the morning with an easy 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Hegarty at No. 6.
