Pitching Dominates The Day In Doubleheader Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Watertown, Mass. – In a doubleheader that featured several elite level pitching performances, Clark and Emerson split a New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball twinbill on Saturday at Watertown's Victory Field.

The Cougars banged out 17 hits in the opener en route to a 13-1 win over the Lions but Emerson responded with a combined no-hitter in a 2-0 win in the nightcap.

Clark improves to 4-9 overall while the Lions snap a six game losing streak and now sits at 3-9.

In the opener, the Cougars scored two runs in the first and then pushed across seven runs in the second inning highlighted by a two-run single by Jack Kenney (Saco, Maine).

That offense was more than enough for ace hurler Derek Dubois (Haverhill, Mass.) who went seven dominant innings, allowing just one first inning single and striking out 11. At one point, he retired 15 straight batters including striking out five of six batters.

Matt Asdornvuttikrai (Winchester, Mass.) went 4-for-6 at the plate with a double, triple, two RBI and two runs scored, while James Conway (Newburyport, Mass.) and Brett O'Keefe (Brighton, Mass.) each went 3-for-5.

The tables were turned in the second game as freshman Cal Laird (Willowbrook, Ill.) and Jack Capotorto (Brielle, N.J.) combined to hold the Cougars without a hit in a 2-0 win.

Laird got the start and went the first 6.2 innings and walked six batters and struck out six more.

Miles Sheehan (Madison, Conn.) was the tough luck loser for the Scarlet and White after he tossed a complete game and struck out a career-best ten batters. He allowed just one earned run and five hits while yielding four walks.

The Lions scored an unearned run in the second and then scored added an insurance score in the eighth on an RBI single.

Clark will return to the diamond on Tuesday when they visit Wheaton College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
