Worcester, Mass. – In a match that saw Clark University only surrender three games, the Cougars breezed to a decisive 9-0 win over New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Emerson College.
The victory for the Cougars pushes their overall record to 9-4 and 1-1 in league contests. The Lions, meanwhile, are now 0-2 and 0-1 in conference action.
Doubles action was dominated by the hosts as Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Antoine Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) teamed up to top Nick Rhodes and Colin Leeds, 8-1, at No. 1.
Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Spencer Pinkney (Falmouth, Mass.) got little resistance from Max Abbushi and Samir Berin at No. 2, where they won, 8-0.
Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) and Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) had a similar story at No. 3, where they handled Dylan Fernandez and Spender Sabo, 8-0.
Stein opened up singles play with an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Rhodes at No. 1, while Pinkney pounced on Leeds at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1.
Pinoargote topped Abbushi at No. 3, Burger made quick work of Fernandez at No. 5 and Jimmy Keogh (Worcester, Mass.) had no trouble with Sabo at No. 6 as they all won by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Clark will continue its busy week with a home contest against Brandeis beginning at 4:00 p.m.
