Cambridge, Mass. – In the postseason for the third straight season, third-seeded Clark University saw its 2014 campaign come to a close following a 6-0 loss to second-seeded Babson College in the semifinals of the New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament at MIT's J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble on Saturday.
The Beavers had a 3-0 lead after doubles play and then only played three singles matches to completion.
Babson began with an easy win at No. 1 where Roberto Perez and Victor Vu had an 8-2 win over Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecaudor).
In the second position, the Beavers' Isaac Thylen and Saif Rahim defeated the Cougars' Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) and Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) by a score of 8-3.
Last to finish was No. 3 doubles, which was won 8-4 by Ramone Doyley and Connor DeFiore over Antoine Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Spencer Pinkney (Falmouth, Mass.).
The two teams played just three singles matches to completion beginning with Thylen defeating Pinkney, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 and Vu posting a 6-4, 6-2 win over Martin at No. 2. Doyley then topped Pinoargote, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4 to wrap up the match.
Babson will face top-seeded MIT on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for the tournament championship.
