Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Brandeis' Samantha Schwartz (Highland Park, Ill.) scored the lone goal in the game's 60th minute lifting the visiting Judges to 1-0 win over Clark, giving longtime head coach Denise Dallamora her 300th career victory on Sunday afternoon in non-league women's soccer action at the Granger Sports Complex.
Dallamora, now in her 35th season, becomes just the third Division III coach in New England and the 14th Division III coach overall to reach the 300 win plateau.
Schwartz' goal spoiled a hard fought effort from the Cougars – specifically a tremendous individual performance from netminder Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.). The junior backstop turned aside a career-best 15 shots including several spectacular diving stops in one-on-one situations.
Brandeis came out firing, getting six shots in the game's first ten minutes, but Paolini was up to the task, including making a diving save on Sapir Edalati (Great Neck, N.Y.) from straight on at ten yards out.
The Judges had another great opportunity in the 18th minute when Cindy Moscovitch (Coral Springs, Fla.) saw her shot from just inside the 18-yard box clang off of the far right post. The ball bounced right to Mathilde Robinson (Miami, Fla.) and her shot from point-blank range was denied by an outstretched Paolini.
Brandeis had yet another chance to score in the first half when a free kick from Holly Sazafran (Homewood, Ala.) was headed for the upper middle of the goal but Paolini was able to leap and send it back into the box. The rebound, however, went straight to Edalati but her shot was again stopped by a sprawling Paolini.
Clark's best scoring chance came early in the second half on back-to-back corner kicks but both Kara Fischer (Belmont, Mass.) and Haley Connors (Burrillville, R.I.) had their shot attempts blocked by Judges' defenders.
Brandeis finally broke through later in the second half when Edalati raced down the right sideline, cut in towards the goal and sent a ball across the front of the goal that found the foot of Schwartz, who tucked it into the lower left corner at 59:31.
The visitors controlled the stat sheet, holding a 27-3 edge in overall shots and a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Michelle Savuto (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Alexis Grossman (Syosett, N.Y.) each played a half in goal for the Judges, while the aforementioned Paolini played all 90 minutes for the Scarlet and White.
Both teams are off until Saturday when Clark travels to Framingham State for a 10:00 a.m. kickoff and Brandeis plays host to Lasell at 1:00 p.m.
